Far off the beaten path, American Samoa is an extremely exotic vacation destination, but one that deserves a special spotlight after their renewable energy partnership with SolarCity and Tesla. Located 4,000-plus miles from the United States’ shores, this distant island is now home to a full-scale, functional, renewable-energy prototype that powers close to 100 percent of the island. This further entrenches the plausibility of a world-power nation being able to scale and implement these energy technologies, something environmentalists have been increasingly pushing for decades. The epitome of a remote getaway, with wondrous nature-filed scenery through and through, Ta‘u now has another, more-meaningful reason for tourists to visit — supporting clean energy.
