Hailing from Poughkeepsie, New York, pop rock band Against The Current, is comprised of Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri. Following two EP’s and a slew of singles garnering international acclaim, the band released their debut album “In Our Bones” this past May. We caught them on Vans Warped Tour switching it up from their international touring and hitting the road throughout the United States.

Chris Remmers: We’re going to start by telling the fans a little bit about where you’re from. How’d you guys get started?

Dan Gow: We’re from Poughkeepsie, New York. So, it’s like an hour and a half north of New York City. The band started when me and Will met in elementary school and started playing together. Then, we met Chrissy through a mutual friend, and then it’s been going since then.

CR: That’s crazy! Since middle school?

Chrissy Costanza: Since actually they were in fourth grade. I think when the band started.

CR: Holy [cow]. How old are you guys now? And, is this your first time at Warped Tour?

CC: 20 and yes!

CR: That’s amazing. What was the feel coming out here for the first time, traveling from Poughkeepsie or up north a little bit?

CC: Yeah, it’s cool to be back in the [United States] and doing some touring. We’ve done a lot of international touring over the last year. So, it’s nice to really do a full US tour this time. It’s awesome being able to tour with other bands too. We do a lot of headliners, so we’re not hanging with other bands that we look up to as much. So, it’s really cool to be able to be out here and have so many other bands to watch every day and learn from.

CR: Have you had the luxury to play with any of the bands that are going to be here?

DG: We’ve toured with Rome.

CC: Yeah, Rome a bunch. We’ve toured with Sykes. They’re not here today, but Good Charlotte, who’s coming on the tour. We got to open for them and All Time Low in the [United Kingdom]. A couple of them, yeah.

CR: Where’s been your favorite place to play so far since you’ve been touring around? Either the States or internationally.

DG: I like Singapore. Singapore is always awesome.

CR: What was your favorite about Singapore? That’s one place I don’t hear too often.

DG: The fans are just crazy. They’re incredible. It’s just an awesome place too. It’s so cool. There’s not much more to say. It’s just awesome.

CR: When you’re doing these tours are you guys heavy focused on your performance? Or, are you writing music as you go along?

CC: Yeah, we don’t really write music on the road at all. We usually kind of just like do it when we’re home and we sit down and work on the music.

CR: With that being said, where does some of your inspiration come from?

CC: It just comes from our life really. Anything that we are personally experiencing or second-hand experiencing. Like watching someone else go through it. It’s all based on just our observations of the world and things we’ve gone through. Things we are just like reacting to in some sort of way.

CR: How do feel music and travel really fit best for you guys?

CC: Besides the fact that we tour all the time?

.

CR: Well, some people have a different response. Some people enjoy the touring, the traveling. Other people they love music, they love being in the band, but traveling takes a toll on people.

CC: Travel does take a toll on you no matter what, but I love it. It’s awesome getting to see other places. It’s awesome getting to meet different people from every corner of the universe pretty much. You know, the guys on Mars are awesome. Really killing it. Great fans on Mars. Jupiter is like whatever.

DG: A little dusty!

CR: Got to dust them off a little bit.

CC: But yeah, it’s amazing. I love getting to meet people all over the world. It’s awesome. We love when we have fans who travel from different places to see us. A lot of our fans from Asia, sometimes they come to school in the States, and we’ll see them at a show and they’ll be like, “Yeah, I saw you guys when you played Taiwan two years ago. And, now I’m here in New York, Arizona or wherever it is seeing you guys.” So, it’s awesome.

CR: So, to wrap this up for you guys. Where’s the next big tour or trip you guys are taking? Either be it for music or just personal getaways.

CC: Well, we’re doing a world tour.

DG: Two weeks after Warped Tour we leave for a three-or-four-month world tour. So, that’ll be fun.

CR: You guys must be excited for that!

CC: Yeah, a world headliner for our album [In Our Bones] that just came out. So, we’re so stoked!
